Le Greche has the essence of finesse evidently surrounding it. It is not just in the warm, golden curves in the decor of their stores, nor the impressive cups of their ice creams. What we have in mind is their elegant taste. The sweet style and generous hedonistic Italianism, and entertains every moment of our day; but also sends to hell the artificial flavour enhancers, powders, margarines, ready mixes and preservatives.
The critical importance of clarity in raw materials along with the alchemical secrets of the workshop, Evi Papadopoulou was taught next to titans of art such as Iginio Massari in Brescia, Northern Italy and Franco Palmieri – one of the greatest masters of handmade Italian of ice cream worldwide. That is why, together with Fotis Alifragkis, they serve truthful tastes and an everything-from-scratch ice cream.
With the top raw materials being the definition of their own luxury; every Christmas they cause festive taste vibrations, with limited edition proposals that go far beyond the trivial, honey macaroons into gourmet sweet bites, subtly mixed with quality honey and broken into a crisp explosion in the mouth, juicy kourabies, like a crumbly miracle, but also some symbols of the Italian ‘Buon Natale’ confectionery.
A tradition on a Christmas dinner table, the unique Alaska, which appears flambé at the end of the meal. A new proposal is the sophisticated semifreddo mont blanc tart with chestnut puree on a chocolate sable base. Warm Tenerina, the Italian chocolate soufflé, recommended with salted caramel ice cream or delicate almond crocan. And of course, the aerial Pandoro Strega that with a fine cut turn into delicious and impressive edible Christmas trees!
An iconic gift, the panettone series that resulted from Dolce & Gabbana’s collaboration with the historic Fiasconaro, with white chocolate and velvety Sicilian almond cream or with citrus liqueur and saffron, as enjoyed in Southern Italy, are predicted to be sold out as every year.
Their Panfonte are mouth-watering: a traditional chewy Italian dessert containing fruit and nuts. It is a Christmas tradition mainly associated with the province of Siena, a rich cake with spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper, it is lightly baked and in their version it has Greek raw material, an increased intensity of citrus fruits and chocolate and can be combined at the most original and impressive platters with cheeses and cured meats.
And as if all this and many more imaginative and light things were not enough, this year for the first time Le Greche invites us to enjoy our evening walks in the city with a cocktail to go, negroni, martini, spumante or prosecco in hand, after all Christmas goes hand in hand with a need to feel spoiled.
