Mon Coin Studio: Contemporary Greek Ceramics Finds the Space It Deserves in Monastiraki

In a city constantly chasing the next new concept, Mon Coin Studio did not emerge as a passing trend, but as a clear statement. Founded in 2019 in Monastiraki by Eléonore Trenado-Finetis, the space was created with a specific goal: to give contemporary Greek ceramics visibility, meaningful dialogue and recognition both in Greece and internationally.

At the studio, ceramics are not presented as mere decoration or as an exercise in tradition. They are approached as an autonomous art form, in constant conversation with painting, sculpture, design, and architecture. The curatorial approach is rigorous yet inclusive, placing emphasis on gesture, materiality, and the essential relationship between maker and work.

Mon Coin Studio operates as an open meeting point for the full spectrum of contemporary Greek ceramic practice. It presents the work of Greek artists regardless of generation, background, geography or form of practice. The only criteria are quality, consistency, and the integrity of the artistic proposal. The space remains equally open to emerging voices and established creators, fostering coexistence, dialogue and the continuous renewal of the scene.

With at least three group exhibitions each year, the studio showcases the breadth of contemporary Greek ceramics functional, decorative or sculptural, offering equal space to diverse practices and artistic paths, while underlining ceramics’ role within today’s visual arts and design landscape.

Exhibitions such as Ancient Vibes in Contemporary CeramicsAIGAIO, and Ceramic Art: Painting and Sculpture have affirmed ceramics as a distinct artistic language. Meanwhile, the series Ceramic Journey Around Greece traveled to Sifnos, Crete, Lesvos, and Aegina, shedding light on local scenes through a contemporary curatorial lens.

At the same time, through collaborations with cultural institutions, academic bodies, and international networks, Mon Coin Studio strengthens exchange and expands the global presence of the Greek ceramics community. Its activity beyond Greece’s borders and its partnerships with established institutions reflect a clear commitment: to promote ceramics as a living, evolving art form—deeply rooted in history, yet firmly oriented toward the future.
