Tsikali: The timeless values ​​of tradition and Sifnos’s cuisine, in Vathi

It’s incredible how quickly time flies and even more incredible how much creative development time can bring to a restaurant, making it one of the undisputed classics. Since 1983 that Tsikali first opened in the middle of the sandy beach, in a primeval landscape very different from today’s, is now the last defender of tradition and the best ambassador of Sifnos’s cuisine to the visitors of the island. 

A stone’s throw from the emblematic church of Agioi Taxiarches, and in a curve of the Vathy beach, under the thick sea cedar tree and overlooking the deep blue waters; Tsikali spreads it’s tables on the sand under the trees creating the most charming and idyllic setting to enjoy the delicacies of the Frazeskaros family.

A good start is the fresh Greek salad, with crimson ripe tomatoes and the fresh white cheese from their privately owned, certified cheese factory, with nice capers and onions. You have to try the soft and fragrant falafel, the traditional and wonderfully bonded chickpea soup, the unparalleled goat stew with wine and dill – also known as ‘mastello’ – the traditional ‘ladera’ and stews, one literally better than the other.

Remarkably, the meat that is used is from their farm, ensuring the purest, cleanest and most organic material: goats, pork, rabbits, raised with care, combined with the cheese that any perfect dish needs, always respecting seasonality and the earth. 

During our vacation, we instinctively look for picturesque places and beaches to refresh our minds and excite our palates. Tsikali restaurant puts a check on all those needs, transforming our visit into a real life experience.
