If you want to eat a traditional, handmade souvlaki – no questions asked – Best since 1996

Best Taste, contrary to other that make promises and don’t deliver, stands out in quality and taste even in the simplicity of a handmade souvlaki, because every item here is chosen individually, with a creative obsession since the distant 1996, truly at the ‘best’ point in the city to eat souvlaki… and not only.

You realize this by ordering the souvlaki, which is not even on the menu, the ‘traditional’, with tomato, onion, salt and hot paprika. With its trademark pita, warm as a hug, crispy and fluffy at the same time, an amazing wrap, a souvlaki like you’ve never eaten anywhere before. You will surely become a regular from your first bite of their gyros (pork and chicken), which is juicy, freshly made with a lot of care, for the most elegantly wrapped and delicious souvlaki of your life.

Everything has a unique balance, as if they have a special agreement with the gods of pleasure.  The same can be said for the burger, which the owner of Best Taste, Fotis Kouremenos, has brought us with a hearty smile and we stay looking it in surprise. The flavour of the meat, with juicy 100% ground beef; salt and pepper, royally mixed in taste, with the sweetness of the brioche (try it yourself!).

For Fotis, introductions are unnecessary… A veteran in the food industry, maestro in the grills, faithful to the traditional charcoal grill, with a deep knowledge and love for meat.  Even having enough personnel, he is the one you manages the kitchen just and treats all his employers as partners. Always there to look after every detail instead of resting on the laurels of a beloved store.

While tasting a fine meat restaurant meat with the fine aroma of charcoal we realize we are sitting in a small square in Kato Petralona, in a small table in the side of a street. Next door you can also find the Best pizza-pasta-burger place, and on the second and third modern floors are welcoming and always full of satisfied customers.

There is nothing missing from the menu: hearty pitas, yaourtlou (pita with yogurt and red sauce), the infamous shockingly good Best burger with red sauce that educes East Mediterranean recalls, pork and beef steaks, kebabs made daily exclusively by Fotis. Everything can be combined  with unique appetizers, such as the Armenian sucuk, the fried zucchini and eggplant sticks, the grilled halloumi cheese, the grilled vegetables, but also freshly cut salads with a special dressings.

The menu is long and dismisses the cliché of ‘less is better’. Here everything is made in absolute transparency behind glass windows so it connects the energy of the kitchen with the street. For a sweet finish, save room for his amazing sweets, made fresh daily.
